Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers. The word upholstery comes from the Middle English word upholder, which referred to a tradesman who held up his goods. The term is equally applicable to domestic, automobile, airplane and boat furniture. A person who works with upholstery is called an upholsterer. Traditional upholstery uses materials like coil springs, animal hair, coir, straw and hay, hessians, linen scrims, wadding and mainly traditional hand sewn techniques and we always use hammer and tacks. Traditional upholstery often takes much longer than Contemporary Upholstery and there can be a price difference in these two techniques.
Modern upholstery can involve cutting edge techniques and an expansive range of elements, including rubber foam, elastic webs and synthetic Dacron. The elements come in layers allowing for a faster application and flexible shapes.
Customer Testimonials

Emily has just lovingly recovered a nursing chair for me, now this was no ordinary chair, it was one that I had made myself many years ago. I had put a lot of time energy and love into making it and was very proud when finished. Unfortunately over the years it had lost its lustre and needed recovering but I was unable to do it myself. I needed someone that I could trust to do a good job and that was Emily, her craftsmanship was outstanding, she didn't just do a good job she did a great one. Her advice, guidance and knowledge were invaluable. I will definitely recommend Emily she did a fantastic job. Once again thank you, the chair looks amazing in my Grandsons nursery.

I had a great time at the footstool making workshop. It was brilliant to learn new skills and to see what goes in to making a lovely piece of furniture! It's clear that Emily and Andy are passionate about their craft and that creates a lovely learning environment. Everyone on the course went home with a beautiful and individual footstool. I would highly recommend the workshop!

Emily is a super multi-talented upholsterer and all round lovely lady. Emily did a fab job creating a seat for our vintage telephone table - and it didn't cost the earth. She's got a great eye for design and her Instagram is sheer furniture porn! Will definitely use again

Emily was wonderful choice to bring my inherited furniture collection back to life. She was helpful, beyond the call of duty, at every stage and a pleasure to work with. The chairs are beautiful and functional again and I was so impressed I couldn't resist buying a sofa from her. Thoroughly recommended!
